Burgie has been running affiliated horse trails since 1977. In 1993, with Hugh as the course builder, the organisation ran it's first CCI* along side their national classes. They soon added a CCI** and towards the end of the 1990's, for a number of years, the event was breaking it's own records for the largest competing International fields that the world of Eventing had ever witnessed.

Kown for it's arduous, hilly terrain, Burgie is respected as requiring a fit horse, a dimension to this event that has to be heavily considered during the cross country design process.

In 2008 the CCI** was won by Zara Phillips. She has plans to come back to defefnd her title in 2009

Hugh has been involved at Burgie as builder/designer since 1992 and solely as designer since 2006.
