Rider comments.

"I don't usually do World Cups with him ( Lord Killinghurst) as the show-jumping is always strong. The X-Country was an ideal track though. It rode bigger than it looked, was quite clever and I'm very satisfied with how it prepared us for Hong Kong"

Andrew Nicholson

The track at Houghton was excellent, with a lot of questions but not too testing for horses at this level"

The diary of Daisy Dick - Gold British team member - Europeans '07, Silver WEG 2006

‘Hugh Lochore’s cross-country tracks were praised and proved a good test for the field.’

Burgie International. Report from The Horse and Hound, 21st June ‘07

‘Caroline [Powell] along with other riders, was full of praise for Hugh Lochore’s tracks – “the cross-country was perfect” - she said.’ On courses at Burgie International in the Eventing Magazine, August ‘07

‘Refreshingly, the two star competition was a true jumping test and Hugh Lochore’s much hyped cross-country course certainly posed plenty of questions. “It was one of the best two-star tracks I’d seen for a long time” said William Fox-Pitt, an observation with which many other riders concurred.’

Report on Houghton International, in the Eventing Magazine, July ‘07

‘….but is not the way I would like to see CIC’s develop. By contrast, the CIC** at Burnham Market was perfect as a qualifier for young horses.’

Quote from William Fox-Pitt’s comment column – Horse and Hound, April ‘07

The Lochore Knack

Burnham Market ran six different types of competition with 3 days of cross-country, plus offering plenty to entertain families over easter. It was a great event for competitors, a knack the Lochore family specialises in.’

William Fox-Pitt, '07 world no.1 – H&H, April ‘07

‘Competitors were full of praise for this event, noting it’s relaxed atmosphere and well presented cross-country courses.’

Report on Ballygraffan in Eventing Magazine, June 2007

'The new World Cup Qualifier was a huge success and Geoff Curran's win was a boosting result for Ireland at just the right time before Hong Kong. Hugh Lochore's track produced a good picture and was challenging to ride with fine galloping sections and tight combinations. The time proved impossible, which is how it should be in World Cup Qualifiers. It must be tough designing a new three star somewhere without even an advanced track before, so hats off to Hugh.'

William Fox-Pitt, 2007 World No.1 - Horse and Hound 12th June 2008

MADAM - Tattersalls International Horse Trials was a brilliant advertisment for how Ireland can do things. The attention to detail and the warmth of it's welcome was outstanding. I am lucky to have competed at Ballygraffan and Tattersalls in 2008 and both events are equally outstanding. - yours, etc., ERIC SMILEY. (irish multiple olympian)

- letter to the Irish Field, 7th June 2008

To course designer Hugh Lochore - hats off to a very fair track with plenty of questions. (Tattersalls 2008)

Lt-Col Gerry O'Goram, Irish Army Equitation School - in a letter to the Irish Field, 7th June 2008

Ballygraffan was voted ‘best event in Ireland’ 2005. An accolade that was repeated by Tattersalls in 2006 and 2007.
