Hugh Lochore is based in the USA and has had an FEI Course Designer license for over 15 years.

Born into an Eventing family, Hugh grew up on horseback and spent his youth competing in Pony Club Eventing and Tetrathlons. He competed through Advanced level, including a number of CCI***'s before turning his attentions to course building and subsequently course designing in the late 1990's.  It was whilst traveling with his parents that he developed a love for the sport and the people associated with the sport of Eventing and in so developed a unique understanding of the layout and safe construction of x-country courses.

Hugh started building courses in the early 90's, a skill that he continued to hone for over 15 years. He soon became interested in the creative aspect of designing and was accepted onto the FEI list for Candidate Designers in 1996, thought to be the youngest person to have achieve this status at aged 22. Hugh went on to achieve full 'I' status in 1999.

Known for his attacking and flowing courses, Hugh has gone on to design extensively throughout the U.K and abroad, including the pony European Championships at Necarne Castle, Ireland in 2003. World Cup qualifiers at Burnham Market for a number of years and for five years at Tattersalls, Irelands' newest International event. Other larger events that Hugh has put his stamp on are Houghton Hall - from inception, attracting the largest number of 3-DE entries in the world at CCI**/*, CIC***; Burgie CCI**/*, from 1995 to present, previously the largest entries for a 3-DE globally; Punchestown CCI***/**/* 2004-2006; Ballygraffan (IRE) CIC**/* from inception, voted best event in Ireland. His artistic talents that once could be seen in his x-country course building are clearly visible in the unique courses that Hugh designs today.

Having moved his family to Florida in 2007, Hugh is still designing at two venues in the UK, and has kept a 'consultancy' interest in a number of others. His feature events in the US include Red Hills International, running CIC* through CIC***, considered an essential spring run for the east coast. In 2012 Hugh will be taking over the design for the American Eventing Championships at Chattahoochee Hills, this ambitious venue running a further 5 events a year including a CCI**. He continues to add to his portfolio with venues throughout The States.
